TRG's Matchmaking Services

It’s Valentine’s Day so we thought it was fitting to talk about our own cupid services through Strategic Partnerships.

Director of Strategic Partnerships is one of those titles where you almost always have to explain. Several years ago, I heard one of my mentors explain to a non-marketer, “We’re basically playing matchmakers. We’re like cupid but for brands” and there it was- my elevator pitch. It has saved me hours (okay, maybe minutes) of explaining to people my purpose in the world of marketing.

At TRG, we aren’t looking for just a one-night stand for our clients (unless you’re into that). We aim for partners who will be invested in the relationship and want to create engaging campaigns with our clients. Now that we know the goal, how do we achieve success? It’s all about finding brand profiles that organically align with our clients. We know our clients inside and out so now it’s about pointing our cupid arrow at the right target!

If TRG had a matchmaking quiz, it may include some questions like this:

1) Demo you are interested in:
a) Male
b) Female
c) Both

2) Target age:
a) All ages: Everyone loves what I have to offer!
b) 18–24: The power of youth is not lost on me.
c) 25-54: I run with an older crowd.

3) Your brand personality:
a) Classic/Traditional: I’m looking for sustainability and just want to feel comfortable.
b) Trendy: I’m always craving the hottest new thing!
c) Innovative: If it’s been done before, I don’t want it.
d) Modest: I like functionality and can do without the bells & whistles
e) Flashy: The more the better!

4) What assets can you bring to the table?
a) I’ve got tons of money.
b) I’m very popular so we’d always have friends to hang out with. You wouldn’t believe how many Facebook friends I have!
c) I am very open to change so feel free to dress me up, change my hair or even my name!
d) I’m always out there talking about myself, “self promoting” some may say, so I’ll be sure to mention you too.
e) I am quite powerful and have the ability to influence others. The world will be at your feet.

5) What’s your ideal platform to work together (dream date)?
a) Let’s just keep it online for now
b) I’d love to check out our favorite stores
c) Movie date. Looking forward to the trailers!
d) All of the above- I can’t choose just one. Lets do it all.

We apply our secret TRG “connect” algorithm and voila! We have a Strategic Partnership made in heaven. Okay, so we aren’t going to be creating www.marketingmatch.com, but we are matching up our clients with their ideal partners using this criteria to help us identify a perfect brand marriage. Knowledge is power so the more we know about a brand’s specific objective, demographic, assets, creative style, timing, budgets and target market, the more powerful the relationship!

Oh, and don’t forget that a million dollar pick-up line can get you far. “What’s your signage?” OR “I’ve got some assets that you can’t resist”.

  1. I’m looking forward to meeting you on Thursday at your place!

It’s not like a date or anything (only as friends). I appreciate the time you’ve set aside and look forward to getting to know you, Patti and your friends. Your Valentines Matchmaking blog seems appropriate, as I believe this could be a match made in heaven and the start of a beautiful relationship!

    Sincerely,

    Robert Nelson
